Hairy woodpecker

It was a woodpecker day at the feeders- 2 downey, 2 hairy ( very unusual- must think it is spring) and the red belly  woodpecker. The only one missing was the pileated, but since we had to have our dying maple and 2 other dead ash taken down this week, maybe it has found another spot to look for bugs. The emerald ash borers have done a number on our ash trees over the last 2 years. The maple was beautiful and was doing well till our house fire , and I think between getting a little toasted and the gash the fire dept left in it when the cut off a huge limb so they could get into knock down the house it was too damaged, and it just never did well after that. It hit the point this year when there were more dead limbs than living limbs and it was time to take it down. It was not a happy time , it was only 4 inches when we moved in  and had grown to be a beautiful tree. I won't live to see it's replacement be full size. Though I am not going to put in a maple in the spot but a redbud. I may try a maple up in the back yard though nothing I have put in up there has done well.
We went for a walk in Otsiningo Park this AM and got rained on a little. Found some mallard pairs and one lone common merganser and a pair of hooded mergansers, but not much else. Except geese. They are everywhere.
