Redpoll

The redpoll is one of the smaller birds that have come to the feeders this winter.  The red front indicates a male, and this one looks healthy; a previous male that we had at the feeder was very ruffled and not inclined to move away.  It may have been suffering from trichomoniasis which is quite common in finches, and can be minimised by better hygiene of feeders and the surrounding area.
