Halfway
Been in Kigali for more than 3 months now, with 3 months more to go, and have been thinking about where things stand at the halfway point. And what better (or more cliched) way to signify reflection than a self-portrait. 13kgs down, in need of a haircut and a shave. So it goes.
Work has been very different to how I'd imagined it - low key and relatively low intensity. Not to say that I've achieved nothing - by the time 6 months are up there'll be plenty of new stuff going on at CM - but rather that I feel like there's more to offer and more to be done. The boss and the parent organisation are thrilled with how it's all going, but impact is magnified by the fact that the base line for communications, monitoring and evaluation and reporting mechanisms were essentially non-existent beforehand, and I'm concerned that they might become nonexistent again. At least the shiny new website is up and running, and should last a very long time.
General Kigali life has slowed down significantly. Plenty of nights in with some excellent books and films of varying quality. This is evening was due to be a good one, but, as often happens, plans fell through. Blipping has slowed down alongside social life and hoping that both will pick up after this weekend. Photo opportunities seem to magically appear when you're not actively seeking them out day-to-day, and when you don't have a camera to hand.
