The river's bottom
affords views that cannot be
enjoyed other times
~ carliewired
On a sunny, Saturday afternoon at the end of winter, a stroll along the river's bottom gives a vantage point one may not enjoy at other times of the year. I enjoyed it today with my daughter. As soon as spring melt gets underway, these broad expanses of sand will disappear. The water level rising in the river will cover so many paths. The entire scene will change.
The naked, knarled cottonwood trees on the river banks hold on tight and keep the banks from eroding in high water.
Today, the trumpeter swans were hunkered down in midstream on an ice shelf near the railway bridge. I guess they know where they are safe.
Under the Overlander Bridge new graffiti was evident. I'm rather partial to Star Trek so I was quite pleased.
Many people were out walking their dogs on the sand. This freedom will end during spring runoff.
