The Swedish houses / Die schwedischen Häuser
It may not be their official name, but these colourful wood-fronted houses opposite the university on Greifswald’s harbour do have a distinct Scandinavian feel.
Fun fact: what was the oldest university in Sweden until 1815? (Clue: it isn’t any from Stockholm, nor Lunds, and certainly not those young upstarts from Uppsala, founded as recently as 1477).
The answer is... Greifswald! Founded in 1456, it was part of Swedish Pomerania until the early nineteenth century. You’re welcome :-).
An old university friend of mine once suggested I join a pub quiz team - it wasn’t meant as a compliment!
