On their way....

An early start this morning to get the cattle fed so that the 19 blks had time to eat their breakfast before the lorry came to collect them. Had them loaded and on their way to the mart by 7.30am. Usually I would go down to St Boswell’s to sell them , but still can’t due to covid rules. Somehow it takes all the satisfaction out of 18 months work getting them from birth to sale .
Spent the rest of the day mixing slurry in the slatted shed. Didn’t go to plan as it was too thick and there wasn’t enough room left to add enough water to thin it down so I will need to try and suck some out with the tanker, add water and start all over again . Bugger.
A trip to my mechanic pal tonight to drop Mrs F off to collect her car now it is fixed.
Back home to discover a wee surprise calf in the feed passage so had to get it and it’s mother into a pen . Gave it some artificial colostrum to keep it going tonight but no doubt will need to faff around in the morning and milk the cow out and feed it. More hassle.
After an extensive search through my cattle records found out she was PDd one month in calf last June so how she ended up in with the lot she was in I don’t know. Farmer error maybe, but don’t tell the staff !
