OUT OF FRAME
I fool around with Out of Frame photos every once in a while. This is a bird similar to a Secretary Bird. It lives on the plains of Africa and makes its living killing snakes, lizards and other cold-blooded vertebrates. It typically stomps them first, then grabs them with its beak and throws them HARD onto the ground. This process is repeated until the critter is killed and then it is consumed.
No.....I wasn't in Africa this morning. This was actually shot at the zoo in Milwaukee a while ago and I just used it as a subject for a little Out of Frame experiment. The process makes a two dimensional photo appear to be in three dimensions. The bird is part of the Raptory Theater which flies birds of prey (yes this guy can fly but prefers to spend time on the ground....like peafowl). It's a rubber lizard but the bird enjoys killing it anyway as he knows there's a real treat for him after the show.
The OOF technique is clearly outlined in a dozen places on the web. Check it out...have some fun. Try it! You have nothing better to do while isolated anyway, right? It surely beats washing and drying dishes.
