A very welcome sight between January and March are the bright yellow flowers of Winter aconites (Eranthis hyemalis).  Usually they are are found in parks and gardens but have often naturalised now into woods and roadsides.  Thousands were growing wild beside a very steep pretty little stream in the countryside but it was too difficult to get a good photo so these were easier to get.
