The are two protesters living up this lime tree by Greifswald’s harbour.

I am impressed by their dedication to the cause, even if I’m not quite clear what it is. I don’t think it’s the tree specifically they want to save, or indeed the grotty car showroom behind it.

Rather, I believe they welcome development, but want the rents to allow people of modest incomes to live there. I believe there are such rent caps in Berlin, and just hope there is still an economic case to develop the site. I suspect, unlike in the UK, the city council may have the power, willingness, and funding to step in...
