What a Contrast!
It was only 10 days ago that my lawn was covered in 6 inches of snow and the temperature hadn't got above 0C for a week, then this morning it was beautifully warm and sunny and the temperature reached 18C. I walked out to the fields on the edge of Letheringsett, the old railway track was nice and dry without the puddles and slippy mud that's been there for months. Delightful to get out in the countryside at last.
Day 345 / Day 50 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 442 to 121,747 (revised basis), with 9,938 new cases, 16,803 patients in hospital, 2,273 on ventilation and 1,327 new admissions. c18.2m have now received their first dose of the vaccine, with 2nd doses starting to rise as well. 2.5M have now died globally. An extra £400m funding has been provided to schools (£720m in total) to help pupils catch up. I saw the briefing today by the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, but whenever he speaks he seems to say almost nothing of substance. All adults on the learning disability register (not just those with severe and profound learning disabilities) will now get vaccine priority after a campaign by DJ Jo Whiley about her sister's situation and a review by the JCVI. A new advertising campaign is being run to encourage us to 'keep going' and stay at home until restrictions can be lifted - it's most definitely needed looking at tv pictures! Good to see Sky News named the News Channel of the Year at the Royal Television Society awards, I think their coverage of the pandemic has been in the greatest depth and the most socially responsible with regular reminders of key restrictions in place.
