Phase out
When I talk to friends who are like-minded, there’s a lot of travel fantasising going on currently. Usually it’s a cue for some frantic googling and mental planning of adventures. Today I even searched for ‘where can I live for cheap where it’s hot and I dunna have to work’.
Even though practically all the details had been released by the press, I watched the latest government coronavirus broadcast with interest. I felt rather patriotic seeing the data and graphs indicating things are getting less serious, as everyone’s collective efforts are clearly paying off and there is a roadmap to phase out. I was particularly moved by the clear success of the vaccination rollout that has been going on for a limited number of weeks but has already reached 17 million people. Hats off to all involved. What an amazing effort.
The journalists from BBC, ITV and Channel 4 were irritating. I don’t like that one of the first questions was whether Boris Johnson would be tendering his resignation if by June the plan doesn’t pan out as explained. It felt cheap as he was always just going to dodge and respond with something non-committal. A waste of valuable airtime when a question could be asked to invite useful information.
If I can’t be accessing African wildlife in person, at least I can be standing in front of this wall decoration in the office, imagining it.
