Another Nice Catch
I first saw the redhead (female) smew on Seventy Acres Lake in early January. I've seen and photographed her a few times since but the light has been rubbish.
It was beautifully sunny today with a stiff but warm breeze. I spotted the lonely smew in the distance fast asleep on an island as we passed. As we returned I noticed that she was no longer there. I caught sight of movement near the bank and she surfaced with a fish in her beak, which is serrated, the better for hanging on to her slippery afternoon tea. I wonder when and where she will go to rejoin her own kind?
