Life bird! The Western Tanager is a member of the cardinal family, and it is a bird of the Northwestern states, so seeing it here in NJ was a rare treat. A clear look at a male Western Tanager is like looking at a flame: an orange-red head, brilliant yellow body, and coal-black wings, back and tail.
