the saw mill
Another walk at NT Kedleston today, this time we took a walk through Hay Wood where a wonderful saw mill dating back to 1825 can be found nestling in the trees. There is no NT explanation boards just a sign saying private. I googled it to find out some basic info because it is a grade 2 listed building. It is currently used as a wood yard and store and they appear to make fencing, tree protectors etc for the estate but we haven't ever seen anything happening. The estate workers may be furloughed of course.
I have photographed the engine room for the saw mill, originally steam powered and probably built in 1874 to house new machinery and a boiler. The little building on the side was the all important privy. Around the other side of this building is the old joiners shop which looks magnificent with Gothic windows. I might blip that another day.
