The Professional Yorkshireman
Immediately recognising me as an offcumden, and with an utterly serious demeanour, he wanted to charge me a quid for his photograph. His wife then went to great lengths to explain that he was joking, which wasn't strictly necessary but funny that she thought it was - obviously having been through similar loops before. John took the piss out of me relentlessly during what turned out to be a surprisingly erudite conversation. As I left on the bike to descend Brunthwaite Hill he asked if he needed to worry about me going down that road at my age!
"I'll sithee," he called out as I rode away. I rather hope he does. It was the most entertaining encounter with a stranger that I've had in years.
