A writers inspiration.
We have had a very enjoyable day out with our friends B&R who took us to Fowey.
Haven't been there since my mum and dad lived down here.
It is a very quaint little town on the west bank of the river Fowey.
Very narrow streets, and I was very glad B was driving!
Would hate to come here in Summer when there will be lots of tourists. We had to stand very close to the walls to let cars pass, when we walked through the town.
A nice lunch at a pub by the river, and a look round some lovely little galleries.
This photo is loooking across the river to Bodinnick, and the house ( "Ferryside" )where Daphne du Maurier lived with her parents, and where she did much of her early writing.see here for more about Daphne de Maurier and Fowey.
The du Maurier family still live here.
What a great place to live! Would have certainly inspired a writer, or it would in those days. Now must be horrendous in Summer when the road becomes blocked with cars waiting to cross on the little ferry.
We didn't intend staying late at their house, but before we knew it , it was 10pm!
Such an enjoyable day, spent with two people we met in a cafe in the South of France two years ago, and have now become friends!
