Out of the Ordinary

.... and out of the wind!   

I brought this very unusual crocus indoors for a photo-shoot, just too gusty for photography outside where the flowers would have taken a bit of a battering.   This is a seedling of mine raised from seed of Crocus heuffelianus, a regional variation of the widely cultivated vernus group which gives gardeners the big purple, white and striped spring crocuses.   Crocus heuffelianus, native across the Balkans, typically has a dark marking across the tips of it's petals.   To my eye, this plant is a hybrid with Crocus tommasinianus,  which can have a cream wash on it's outer petals.   Hybrids between the vernus group and the tommies often appear in gardens where the two species are grown in close proximity, quite variable, some are more notable than others.

On another dull, windy and rainy day, I did a couple of hours glossing at work this morning, wanting it to be dry before folk come in to work on Monday.   Shopping and some admin, a long walk for Meg as the rain eased off a bit filled much of the rest of the day.    Should be drier tomorrow and we might see the sun on Monday ..... I shall sing if we do, we miss it!
