Fascinating afternoon
The botanical garden that I'm working with is potentially partnering with the water utility in our county on piece of land that is currently a golf course. They do watershed restoration as part of their water management and we would collaborate on native plant gardens and education for the public, and especially for agricultural workers.
We visited their Fern Hill facility today, which is now a gorgeous natural area that is open to the public. There is a water treatment operation there, but you really wouldn't know it by looking at it, except for the interpretive signs. The wetlands are literally used to clean and cool the water before returning it to the river. It's fascinating!

Here's a shot of a bit of the more manicured area - eventually it all fades into wetlands. 700 acres! Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
