Life's Little Moments

Yippee!!

Who better to deliver great news than the ever-cheerful Tufted Titmouse?  My parents got their first dose of the Pfizer vax this morning and I couldn't be happier!  You may recall that they were originally scheduled (which was a bicoastal effort) for last Saturday.  And then the big storm hit Portland, cancelling all vaccine clinics for several days.  Happily, they rescheduled my parents for this morning.  They have their second dose scheduled for the middle of March.  Happy dance!!!

In other good news, I spotted the white/leucistic junco today - I hadn't seen it for 4 days and feared that it had succumbed to weather or a predator.  Happily, it's been around all day, darting around and full of attitude.

It started snowing around 9 this morning and has continued much of the day although I don't think we are going to end up with as much accumulation as predicted.  We'll see.  It is probably going to snow most of the night and then taper off sometime tomorrow morning.  Predictably, the feeders are doing a booming business and I've gone out multiple times today to refresh food and water.  Over the course of the day, I've tallied 21 species of birds seen from my living room window.  There was also one deer who came out of the woods and scavenged under the feeders.  I feel so badly for the deer right now as they really struggle to find anything to eat with over a foot of snow on the ground.  I continue to put dried corn out at night, but it's not enough to keep multiple deer fed and healthy.   Hopefully next week's warmer temps will melt most of the snow.

I'm kind of bummed that I can't put my hide up right now, but there is just so much snow everywhere that I don't have a large enough cleared space to set it up.  Which is incentive for me to keep my windows very, very clean.  I did really miss not being able to be out there today, though.  I'm sure I missed some great shots.

I'd like to get to the gym tomorrow, but will have to see how much snow we end up with and how long the clean up takes us.  The gym closes between 1 and 3 every day for cleaning, in addition to the deep clean overnight, so hours are limited.

A quiet evening on tap for us.  Dinner and a little TV.  And, for me, many deep sighs of relief that my parents have finally gotten their first vaccine.

Take deep breaths, be safe, be kind.  And today I'm recommending dark chocolate with a hint of sea salt.
