Two Kinds Of Head & Shoulders

No real reason for this image - it just made me smile!

After Sunday's "horizontal Dave" today was the first day I attempted another run. Only a short half miler but no after effects so looks like the ankle is good to go again. Hurrah!

Another TV recommendation - this time it is a documentary from the Storyville strand on BBC Four called Whirlybird: Live Above LA. The TV critic Lucy Mangan called it "The family that changed the news for ever - and then fell apart".
It is about the evolution of live broadcast news in the US since the early 80s - brought about largely by one married couple - Bob Tur and Marika Gerrard-Tur.
Marika met the impassioned and charismatic Bob when they were barely 20 and was soon caught up in his obsession with hunting down stories and capturing video footage of dramas unfolding in downtown Los Angeles. They married and developed a business that - literally - took off, when Bob realised that taking to the skies rather than the freeways would give them the edge over any other competition so he bought and learned to fly a helicopter.
Bob did the piloting and reporting and Marika hung perilously out of the helicopter door to capture footage of car chases, robberies and riots. It was their footage that 80 million people watched as the police chased OJ Simpson in the white Bronco.
Alongside this was a portrait of the breakup of the family brought about by the pressure and stresses involved in their line or work.
It was scary, exciting, shocking, fascinating, anger inducing, poignant and also heartbreakingly sad. One of the best documentaries I have watched this year.
