A Different Springwatch

In Kings Meadow in Holt, the signs of Spring abound. Here you can see the new housing Spring shoots of 'scaffoldicus tubus', which will bloom into homes of the genus Hopkins Homes. The developer has got plenty of 'feed' on site in terms of bricks, roof trusses, sand and cement. Some buildings are in full bloom, others will bloom at various times during the year. 

A great match this morning with Tsitsipas beating Nadal which I enjoyed whilst doing the ironing. Then a town walk following by a nice catch up by phone with G. I've added a photo for those who know Holt of the new Dyson building at Greshams. The prefabs are on the parking 'parade ground', with the building itself shooting up on the green in front of the chapel.

Day 338 / Day 43 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 738 to 118,933 (revised basis), with 12,718 new cases (up a bit, hopefully not a trend), 20,944 patients in hospital, 2,708 on ventilation and 1,415 new admissions. c15.9m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. Globally cases to date pass 110m, with the rate of increase slowing down a lot recently. Total deaths in the US have now passed half a million. Speculation abounds in the Press about the easing of lockdown, despite the numbers in hospital still being around the level at the peak of the first wave, and nearly 700k having the virus nationally. This is still way too high, and is at a level which, were we not in lockdown, would soon trigger a third wave. The PM quite rightly says he will focus lockdown plans on data, not dates. In a world first, volunteers in the UK aged between 18 and 30 will be deliberately exposed to coronavirus (original version) in a 'challenge trial' in an attempt to work out the smallest amount needed to cause infection, how the immune system reacts, who's likely to be asymptomatic and in time, which vaccines are best at aiding prevention. 14 new temporary 'Nightingale courts' are being opened in England to help clear the backlog of cases. Over half a million pounds has been raised to help mountain rescue volunteer who suffered life changing injuries whilst trying to help campers who had broken lockdown rules. I had to laugh at the case of a reporter being called for a vaccination under the new computer model as he was deemed to have a BMI of 28,000 - his records mistakenly recorded his height as 6cm!
