Two Gallons To Go

I find it difficult to get a good capture of these beautiful California Brown Pelicans.  I don't see them very frequently, and when I do it is usually after they silently glide up behind me and soar past.  I gave my grandson, Jack the task of being on the lookout for them and we spotted a small group coming towards us as we were having lunch along the water.

Here are some pelican facts:

The range extends from Mexico north to Vancouver.

Brown pelicans build large nest structures on the ground, in trees, or on vegetation.

Pelicans normally lay three eggs and the adults share incubation duties.
They can dive from 60 feet in the air.

they live up to 40 years old.

A pelican's throat pouch can hold over 2 gallons of water.
