Buchanan Castle
It was a fabulous day for a walk round by the ruins of Buchanan Castle, another of the buildings of historical interest in Drymen.
You can read more about its history here if you're interested, but the potted version is that it was originally built in 1854 for the 4th Duke of Montrose, was a military hospital during the second world war - Rudolph Hess being its most (in)famous patient - and had its roof deliberately removed in 1955, after which it fell into disrepair.
What a crime! See the trees growing out of the turrets.
If you click on the first link you'll see what the castle looked like in its former glory.
Friday already - have a good weekend, everybody!
