Primordial
Today a cold but very bright day, and a walk around the nearby streets at lunchtime. St Philip’s was looking pleasant.
At the end of the day I caught up with my ex-colleague Nicolas, who moved to Belgium a few months ago. We chatted whilst he sat in his car in a car park in -7 degree weather whilst he waited for his daughter to finish ballet class.
I later also chatted to another friend who is in remission from lymphoma since last year. He was very sanguine about the situation and the lack of a clear cause for his condition. As a scientist he’s been able to rationalise it as random mutations, which happen all the time. He said, ‘without mutations we’d just be single-celled organisms in a primordial soup.’
With that in mind, it’s amazing that we are where we are.
