Seeking Suet
The Woodpecker
His bill an auger is,
His head, a cap and frill.
He laboreth at every tree,—
A worm his utmost goal.
~ Emily Dickenson
With several inches of snow from the Polar Vortex, bird survival is a high priority. Jeff moved one suet feeder close to the house and it has afforded terrific closeup vies of woodpeckers, bust tits, kinglets, and other birds eating suet. See the Flicker in the extra photo.
He set up a hummingbird feeder next to the house in the entry where it is protected from the wind. The syrup doesn't freeze and we have at least one hummer that just sits at the feeder, occasionally drinking and staying warm.
Portland doesn't receive heavy snow frequently, so the city pretty much shuts down for the duration. Rain is predicted for Monday. This snow should disappear fairly rapidly, and life in the time of COVID will resume. Thanks for the comments, stars, and faves for my blip of Jeff shoveling snow.
