Tranent Tower

An L-shaped tower house dating from 1542, built by the Setons but bought by the Vallance family sometime in the 16th century. They held it until the nineteenth century. In the early 20th century the tower was still in use but for hay storage. Nowadays the tower is missing its roof and in a ruinous condition. But it is a scheduled ancient monument, which is why it is protected by scaffolding. Conservation work and repairs have been promised but have yet to materialise.
