Inside the Church

Churrigueresqueis the architectural style for the altars that line the walls of many churches. I think it is also called Spanish Baroque, and was common in the 1700's. The elaborate wood carvings are covered with gold leaf. An interesting thing is that these large churches are not necessarily in big cities. We traveled high into the mountains to reach the village of Capulálpam, where this one is located.
