Thaw

Over the land freckled with snow half-thawed
The speculating rooks at their nests cawed
And saw from the elm tops, delicate as flower of grass
What we below could not see, Winter pass.

These lines from Edward Thomas seemed apt for the landscape today.
Except that here at Phingask by a very grey North Sea, it was the flock of fieldfares, the mournfully crying curlews along with the occasional 'speculating rook' which looked down on the slowiy thawing snow and, I hope, saw Winter pass.
