Quod oculus meus videt

Essex Bridge, Shugborough

A sunny morning, yippee!

I had a meeting in Stafford this morning so decided to take a short divert and visit Great Haywood. From the village it is just a short walk over this stunning old bridge, which crosses the River Trent, to the Shugborough Estate. THis is looking back towards the village. I'm not all together happy with the shot, somehow it feels unbalanced. Still you can't go back and re-shoot (at least not straight away!).

I remember as a very young boy in the 1960s being taken here in the mid of winter and I am sure I remember the river having frozen over and it was possible to walk under the arches of the bridge. Or was this just my memory playing tricks on me!
