Growing Ice

Temps are still below zero and when -10°C (during the night) the ice grows with some 4 cm in thickness.

At first snow fell and a strong wind, storm even, blew; in those conditions open waters don't freeze over. The ice with snow on top doesn't thicken fast and ice with snow frozen in, isn't strong; but it's expected that in coming weekend the Dutch can go skating on their open waters, t.i. on their natural ice!
Today the news reported some that some had found a frozen lake where they sail on the ice... no skaters wanted there!

There's a lot of talk going on whether the 200 kms skating race of the 11 towns = 'Elfstedentocht'  will be organized and its organizers and provincial authorities say it's not possible to realize such an event in this lockdown time as people won't stay home behind the tele, but will come to watch it themselves, like in the past. There is talk tho' of organizing on Sunday or Monday a marathon race by sportsmen/-women on natural ice of a lake, what will be broadcasted live on tele... Corona limitations curtail us here.

Thank you all lots for your reactions upon my yester SOOC blip; lovely to see how you all like that spot and view too :-)
