As I awoke this morning you could see the extra whitening effect oft he snowfall during the night. Just a slight renewal but nevertheless. All traces of yesterdays heavy cleanup were covered again. And thats what makes snow so fascinating. Before the thaw sets in of course.
Now, I’m not pretending to tell you anything new here. Many of you live under almost daily snow conditions. But for us who had almost forgotten what a severe winter could mean, things are different.
After my long reading of Thomas Merton this morning I wanted to see how the western riverside would look now. I wanted to see Our Philemon&Baucispair in snow and ice. And as I went on descending toward the River in the beginning I could walk on the road. But then at the railwaycrossing there was only one track left. And the railway had vanished. Some days ago the trainservice is halted.
From there al along the riverside there is only one small icy track to follow. You have to stay very carefull about your steps. Especially with old shoes on like me. And when evrything around you is covered in white, only a few orientationpoints rest. The River seems rather unchanged. But not its colour and look: its full of icefloes floating.I still know in what direction I keep moving, but while focussing on my steps, I feel allmost everything on this walk is unknown, brandnew. The snowcover has slided me out of normal vision, behaviour.
No one else to see. My favourite Willowpair Phil&Baucy standing stillfrozen, covered in white, ice all around. Furtheron Our favourite Bench not available, looking weird. Its keeping freezing, You know what? I turn and take my time to reach home, longing for hot tea and hot shower. This super healthy experience will inspire me writing my Blipnotes.
