Snow - Day 4

Another 1-2 inches of snow overnight which again I cleared from the paths this morning. The sun came out in the morning and that did look lovely. I live at the end of a cul de sac with a turning point which is getting quite treacherous from compacted snow turning to ice. A few vehicles were sliding, so I had a small amount of grit which I put down. My Sainsbury's delivery got cancelled as the van slid back down a hill coming out of Weybourne  and into an embankment (about 2 miles away) on his way to me. The recovery vehicle arrived and they started digging him out which they estimated would take 2 hours.....and then the recovery vehicle started getting snowed in!

Day 331 / Day 36 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 1,001 to 114,851 (revised basis), with 13,013 new cases, 26,684 patients in hospital, 3,164 on ventilation and 1,872 new admissions. c13.1m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. Deaths in the US have now passed 480,000. and in France 80,000. At the briefing, Boris encouraged the 2m who have yet to take up the offer of a vaccine to come forward, particularly those working in Social Care. Scientists advising the WHO have said that the Oxford / AZ vaccine can be given to adults of all ages and that 8-12 weeks between doses was best, giving 'a much better immune response'. South Africa wants to swap its half a million dose order of the AZ vaccine for a different treatment due to it being less effective against its dominant strain of the virus. The EU president has admitted the EU underestimated the rolling out of vaccines - perhaps they could buy the SA half million doses. A study by Imperial College has shown new signs for Covid including loss of appetite, muscle aches, chills and headaches (I thought most of these have been mentioned before). The researchers think that the classic symptoms should lead to half of symptomatic infections being picked up, but if these new symptoms are included the number should rise to three quarters. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have received their first dose of the vaccine. A British mathematician has estimated that all of the Covid-19 causing virus currently circulating in the world would fit into a single coke can - astonishing that so much harm is being done from something so small.
