Woodhead Pass
We had a trip to the otherside of the world this afternoon ( that's South Yorkshire).
Snow lying on the top of the pass was not really a suprise. We drove some of our favourite minor roads around Holmfirth, Victoria, Royd Moor, Ingbirchworth and Millhouse Green and there were still roads there with snow covering half the carriageway and some large areas of snow out of sight of the sun.
Inbirchworth Reservoir still had a frozen section not what we were expecting.
In marked contrast to this taste of Winter the number of Lapwings in the fields around Royd Moor made it seem like Spring will be coming soon. For every field we have locally with 1 or 2 Lapwing there seemed to be 10 or 20 there.
A Curlew called out loudly overhead while we walked by the frozen section of the Reservoir. Tufted Duck, Little Grebe, Mallard, Black Headed Gull and Coot also present.
