Anonymous pillar box

Another pillar box to add to my collection - this is on Richmond Green. It dates from between 1879 and 1887, when the Post Office saved money by eliminating the Royal cypher. The slot is also quite small and near the top. Apparently this type of box was not popular with the public and the Royal cypher was reinstated. I walked there with my son for a birthday outing this afternoon - an eccentric birthday treat!
