Gallipoli.....

Freezing cold this morning although we only have a light covering of snow. Lengthy negotiations with my wife have finally concluded with her agreement to give me a haircut later this morning. She hates doing it but is rather good fortunately!

It seems so difficult to feel any sense of achievement at the moment so I hope you will understand how chuffed I was to see this article published last week. The text is mine, the photos are by my friend, Keith Edmonds.

The article can be just about be read if enlarged on your screen but it will not interest all potential readers, I'm sure. It's about how a General (Hamilton) was given an impossible task to launch a seaborne assault on the Turkish coast at Gallipoli in 1915 by a politician (Churchill). After the inevitable disaster, they both sought to defend their shattered reputations by portraying the whole enterprise as glorious and heroic.

The article was published by the Western Front Association in their quarterly journal. The current membership is about 6,000:
