tempus fugit

Behind the tines

You see things in winter that are invisible later in the year:

Pre-war horse-drawn hay rake  - but which war?

It was made by a company (Nicholson's of Newark on Trent) that existed from 1825 to to 1939. (See here if you're interested in old agricultural machinery.)

I found a photo  of an identical one in a Scottish museum here, and a wistful depiction of a similar rake  in action here.

The seat has been removed - probably for sale. I've seen them used in city pubs and coffee bars for young executives to perch their fat arses bottoms on.

It rests in company with a Bamford's mower with Auto Oil Bath of similar vintage, like two old pensioners gazing out to sea.
