Manhole

In an attempt to find out why the drainage in the village is so bad, we cleared access to a random manhole and had a shufty down the hole. It appears to have no purpose. It might be  "part of the bigger picture", which is, I understand, Civil Engineer's shorthand for "I haven't got a clue why this is here or what it does."
