Swiss Sahara Sand Event
Yesterday’s pretty snow swirls (thanks for all your funny comments!) won’t be so pretty today, we are experiencing yellow clouds of Sahara dust blown in by the strong fœhn wind. The air felt strangely warm and humid as we skinned above Morgins, it looked like smog! The surface of the snow was becoming browny yellow. I have never experienced this so strongly before. All of our clothes, rucksacks had tiny brown marks on them, and the cars in the car park, after only two hours, were covered in fine sand particles. This is not good news for the ski season, the sand layer will act like a blanket on the already melting snow.
