De Batavia

A replica of a 17th century ship. The original one left the Dutch harbor in 1628 but never arrived at it's destination due to quarrels, intrigue and mutiny on board. Sounds like a good film...

In 1985 someone started building the replica the same way the original one was built. Same materials, same manual labour. Hundreds of students helped.

It is now part of a museum. I passed it today when I was visiting my sister during our walk together. It was a bit rainy, but not too bad. And not too cold yet. During our walk we also passed the house of her eldest daughter, niece no. 3. We accepted an invitation for a cup of tea. A lovely day.

Home now. Windows closed. Items on the balcony secured. Heater on. Tomorrow we'll have a day with snow and a harsh wind. No plans to go out.
