Skiing into the Sunset

Out on x-country skis today, setting off from the house, down across the field to the lake, around the edge of the lake, and back home again.  It's quite a short trip, about 3 kms but it marks our return to health, both because we actually went out on skis, and because we felt pretty OK the whole time and didn't collapse when we got home.
In fact, when we got home we had a quick wash, a hot drink and then headed out for an evening with Rose, who had invited us for dinner.  Which is why I'm blipping at two minutes to midnight.
The extra photo was originally going to be my main blip, but Jan had the same idea so I switched my two images around.  This picture was taken at the far end of the trip, just as we'd turned around and were headed for home. A big elk had walked around the end of the lake a few days back when the snow was softer and it had mostly sunk through to the ice. Our ski-tracks make much less of an impression.
For most of our trip the sun was hidden in cloud but for a short while it dropped out under the clouds and gave us this sharp light, until it sunk beneath the horizon.
