Today started as a sunny cold and clear day. Just the job for a bike ride. This time LooseCanon decided to come too so we’ll probably have similar blips.
This is the Lengthsmans cottage and locks on the South Stratford canal at Lowsonford. A few years ago there was an Anthony Gormley metal sculptured figure but it has been removed now.
The cottage is owned by the Landmark Trust and in normal times you can stay there. The barrel roofed cottage dates from 1812. It housed the “Lengthsman”  who maintained the lock and this length of the canal.
Seemed a decent hard ride today as we haven’t ridden much since autumn. The worst thing was having to cycle through about six inches of flood water on the road near Preston Bagot. We had freezing cold wet feet after that. Best thing of all was discovering that the Yew Tree Farm shop at Wootton Wawen was open and selling takeaway sausage baps and coffee. It was rather pleasant eating them outside in the sunshine.
