FEBRUARY 1st

Today I went to a park in San Fernando, CA & received my 1st MODERNA  vaccine. This is a very Hispanic area & has a Cesar Chavez monument & mural  just outside the park.  He was a much loved labor leader & Latino American civil rights activist.

I assumed this large COVID testing & vaccine site was in this neighborhood because Latino Americans have suffered terribly during this pandemic.  Maybe placing it here is a way to vaccinate the hardest hit population.

However, as I was waiting in line for the vaccine & sat for 15 minutes after, I noticed there were few Latino Americans receiving the vaccines.  The reasons, I think,  are in part because the process to find an appointment is very opaque, difficult  & confusing.  English language fluency, a computer, & knowledge of a website are mandatory.  It is a high hurdle to jump for folks who work long hours, who take public transportation; & may not even know how to get an appointment in their own city park.
There are some cultural suspicions in play, too.

Vaccines are free, but finding an appointment is difficult.  The guidelines are confusing.  They are rarely given by our own personal physicians & are in short supply.  My daughter heard from a neighbor about this website, where she found mine.  I was blessed with her help.
I would still be waiting, if not for her diligence in finding an appointment. .

This is a mess left behind by our previous president; but should be improved with the new Biden/Harris administration.   In the near future, COVID VACCINES will probably be available at pharmacies.  Until then,
every vaccine given is a miracle.

My 2nd COVID VACCINE is March 1st.
