Maitland Robinson Library, Cambridge.
This library in Downing College was designed by Quinlan Terry, and named after J.W.C Maitland Robinson, a Downing College graduate whose gift enabled a purpose built library. It was built in 1992 in a Greek Revival style in keeping with the rest of the college buildings. The Greek Doric portico is modelled on the portico of Augustus, in Athens, while the roof is intended to recall the Athenium Tower of the Winds. This afternoon was sunny with a blue sky at last.
