Apples and cockatoos

I have been watching this apple tree beside the road, daily expecting the white cockatoos to attack and strip it. But they seem to be completely uninterested in apples. They appear to prefer hard crunchy things like pine cones and stone fruit (do they eat only the stone?). Or perhaps the apples aren’t yet ripe enough?
