Shadows..

Lots of cyclists,  walkers, dogs and runners out early today.   A lot of people from out of town were enjoying perfect weather on the long weekend in this part of the country.  This is part of the very large Scion tree archive and nursery and research park (yesterdays blip was about 500metres form here)  Trees have been bred in this area since the 1890's for a government afforestation programme. 60 species of exotic were planted on these grounds to see which were best suited to New Zealand conditions. Scion is the Crown Research Institute for forestry and manufactured products derived from trees.
Part of Scion is not accessible but this is part of a huge area open for recreation and where dogs can run free.  The Redwood Forest (not part of Scion) where I have also  blipped a number of times is very close by and those magnificent trees were no doubt some of those planted in earlier years on the original 5000 acres.  We are blessed to have this/these wonderful spaces available for everyone to enjoy.
