When I Were A Lad...

... the Canon AE1 seemed the very acme of technological sophistication. A friend's dad had one. "How could he possibly afford to spend 300 quid on a camera?" wondered 1978me, and what did all these numbers mean? and wasn't that changing the focus thing just an unbelievably sensuous thing to do?

And it was put, in my mind, alongside all the other unattainable things in my life - you know, trips on Concorde, driving a Rolls Royce and wearing a Rolex. However, unlike those three (Concorde is retired, I can't drive and really, I'd prefer an IWC Ingenieur), the AE1 fell into my lap. It belongs to G and it has some serious looking lenses that go with it.

The deal is, I can use it if I want to, which is pretty damn awesome.

Now where do I go to find out "how" to use one...
