Squidger*

Lovely walk in bright sunshine at Holyfield farm. Nice to see a house sparrow, we don't get them at home these days. When we used to grow carnations as cut flowers they were real pests as they used to sit on the wire supports and peck at the flower buds. We used firework-like bangers to scare them off.

We walked and chatted individually with two nice men who we have seen before and Ollie enjoyed playing with a friendly King Charles spaniel. Two German shepherds on leads barked at her like mad but she kept her cool. They were very anxious rescue dogs. When I asked their names one was Frankie and the other Sherry, which got me singing. I told the man and woman that if Sherry was my dog I'd be singing the song to her all the time. The man said that his wife does just that as she is a fan of The Four Seasons.

* East London name for sparrow.
