Spent the day at quite possibly the most fantastic beach ever, it doesn't get much better than this: Fine hot white sands, sand dunes, towering swirling rocks coming out of the sea, caves, land thick with Manuka trees, pools with baby seals playing, their mothers on rocks nearby, blue sky and blazing sun and warm turquoise sea. The down side was we had to share this enormous beach with possibly up to as many as 30 other people through out the entire day.
This is Jasper on his 13th birthday, can it get much better than hanging out at the beach and playing in a baby seal pool with friends?
Mike and Rich's fishing expedition off the rocks provided us with loads of dinner and a small shark...delicious fried in garlic and butter and served with ample dead mosquitos.....Yola discovered her inner insect psycho killer and waged war before, during and after dinner! We drove up to nearby Kaihoka fresh water Lakes (hence the mosquitos) in the mountains and spent the night freedom camping, which means we need to be self sufficient with grey water capture facilities and a portapottie - ie what you bring you take away. The Department of Conservation have rangers who can give spot 200 dollar fines for freedom camping outside of designated areas. It keeps the place spotlessly clean and leaves it immaculate for all to enjoy.
