Another Day, Another Disaster

Now that the garden clean-up is more or less finished we are ready to move on to the next disaster.
More leaves to come as high winds and heavy rain are predicted tonight.
The second part of the warning sign at the start of our street (shown in the top picture) is now upon us.
The emergency warning has come over our phones:
The National Weather service has issued a flash flood warning for Sonoma County. This may become a life threatening situation for anyone within or downstream from the Kincade, Wallbridge, Meyers and Glass Fire burn scars. (We are in the direct path of the Glass Fire burn scar at the foot of the Santa Rosa Creek Caynon) Be alert for possible danger due to erosion, debris flows, rock falls and land movement.High wind  conditions may cause power outages...

When I came home from returning the last rug sample I found John on his knees once again digging  a trench across our field. Spike was watching carefully. 

We are not being evacuated  but are being warned to pack a bag and be ready to leave at a moment's notice. We're getting pretty good at fleeing fires and packing our bags, but seeing as how we live quite high above the creek and our house is built on solid rock and clay, we have decided we would feel safer in it than trying to drive out of here in the dark ahead of a mudslide....

The rain has begun though it's not exactly the 'atmospheric river' and high winds that are predicted for later. This is one time I would prefer the storm happen in the daytime rather than the dark of night.
