An Interesting Day!
A group of us from the botanical garden team went to visit a potential site today. It was mighty chilly and overcast this morning, so many, many layers of clothing (along with the crutches....). The location is a golf course west of the city of Portland - not in the city at all actually, but a neighboring city. The location is gorgeous, and there are several very interesting partners involved, including the local water utility.
The site is about 340 acres, 200+ of which are flood plains for the local river. The water utility purchases a lot of lands like this so that they can manage water usage - taking and returning water to the river(s). Very complex but this utility is well known for their excellent water management practices and it would be an honor to partner with them on this land. Then there's the golf course(s) and a 80 acre chunk that used to be a course which has been let go. That's the piece that we'd be interested in. Anyway, it's a lot less complex than the superfund site, but of course not quite as interesting a story.
Anyway, this is a shot of the retention ponds that are used to provide water to the course. The wildlife there is incredible.
Onwards!
